What is Residency Certification Number (RCN) and how to I get my RCN?

The Residency Certification Number ("RCN") is a unique identifier that RDS assigns to you when you begin the RDS online interview. The RCN is unique to you. It provides confirmation that you have completed the RDS residency determination process. When you apply for admission at any NC college, the college will ask for your RCN in order to request data from RDS concerning your residency status. Even if you aren't a North Carolina resident, it's quick and easy to get your RCN.

To request your RCN, please fill out an application with the Residency Determination Service at: https://ncresidency.cfnc.org/residencyInfo/. If you have any further questions about residency in North Carolina, please contact an RDS representative by phone at 866-866-CFNC(2362), option #4, or by email at rdsinfo@ncresidency.org
