What should I do if I get error message when sending my transcript?

The most common reason for transcript errors is that the information you provided in your transcript request doesn't exactly match your high school records (PowerSchool and Infinite Campus are the two databases that public NC high schools use).

Step 1:

Double-check that you have entered everything in your transcript request on CFNC.org (image below) exactly as recorded in your school records and try to submit again.  Go through this checklist as you retry:

  • Name spelling, punctuation, and suffix - ensure your first and last names are spelled and punctuated exactly as they appear on your school records.  You can look at your report card or consult your school's data manager.  For example, watch for name variations since "Maddie King" will not match with "Madelyn King".  The last name "Tanner-Shelton" will not match with "Tanner Shelton" or simply "Tanner".  Also, the last name and suffix "Gutierrez, Jr." will not match with "Gutierrez".
  • NC Student Number (formerly NC WISE number) - be sure you are entering your student number exactly as it appears on things like your report card or lunch ID card.  If you graduated from a North Carolina public high school in 2007 or later, you should have an NC Student Number.  This number is not your NC Residency Number (RCN), a college id number, your social security number, or your driver's license.  If you can't find it, please note that CFNC does not keep these records, and you'll need to contact your high school or school district.
  • Birthdate - verify that your date of birth is accurate and matches the information listed in your school records.
  • Gender - confirm your gender matches the information in your school records.
  • Extra spaces - ensure that there are no extra spaces after any of the entered information.

After confirming the above information, remember to click the "Save Personal Information" button.  Submit the request and then check the status in the CFNC Application Hub a few minutes later.

Step 2:

If you've resubmitted your request, and you still have an error, you can use the phone number or email below to create a technical ticket so we can investigate the issue further.

Please note that if you last attended high school in 2006 or before, you will need to go to the website of your local school district to learn how to make a records request for your transcript.

If you need to create a technical ticket or have additional questions, please contact us at questions@cfncresources.org or call 866-866-CFNC(2362) option #1.
